Day 3 Reflection
Today we studied curriculum and some of the vocabulary in the same sphere of education. The main activity for this is that we were given a long list of terms from within the realm of curriculum and after a moment to fill in what we knew we were given the opportunity to convene with group members and share what we knew and discuss topics we didn’t.
Truthfully I learned a valuable lesson from this short exercise. Throughout the grad program thus far I have been very successful. However in this exercise, of the 30 or so terms I probably had an accurate description of only 15. For another 10 or so of the terms I cut myself short and gave my best guess based on context clues and vague memories. When we met as a group, I realized that I had a lot less blanks than my group members. I was certainly ready to discuss my answers with them and describe what I had. However, nearly all of my “educated guesses” were far off the mark, and as a result so were the answers of my group mates. I think I learned that sometimes guessing isn’t helpful. There are times where shortcomings are intentional, and by guessing and assuming your correctness you limit your own ability to research and learn.
Also today was the first half of classroom management presentation, and truthfully I’m glad I wasn’t drawn to present today. My classmates absolutely rocked the presentation! I was absolutely taken away by how they were able to flip the switch from classmate to class teacher. My peers and going to be excellent teachers and I’m excited for all of us.
Glad I have a few extra days to prepare my lesson!
