Emphasis will be placed on the algebraic processes and their use in problem solving. Students will enhance their oral and written communication concerning the language of algebra, logic of procedures, and interpretation of results throughout the course. Guidelines for Mr. Collier’s class

  1. Required Class Supplies

  2. Organization will be a huge factor in your success as you progress through education. You are expected to take adequate notes and keep those notes in a generally organized manner. Either a spiral notebook or 3 ring binder is suggested.

  3. All work that is turned in or graded needs to be completed in pencil.

Suggested Class Supplies

  1. Graphing paper

  2. A single “Hi-Polymer Eraser”

  3. 2-4 AAA batteries for calculator battery replenishment

  1. Grading Policy

  2. Homework/Classwork: 10%

  3. Quizzes: 35%

  4. Tests: 40%

  5. 9 Week Assessment: 15%

Homework Policy

Homework should be expected four nights a week. Students will have the opportunity the next class to ask questions about their homework. After we have gone over the homework, it cannot be turned in late. In accordance with new school guidelines, an alternative assignment will be given to students who did not do the homework. This alternative assignment will have a maximum score of 75/100. Homework grade will be determined in an appropriate manner for the assignment that was given.

Make-up Work Policy

1. Students are responsible for turning in assignments that were due on the day of your absence.

2. Students have as many days as you were absent to make up the homework and classwork.

(See student agenda page 16)

3. Students are responsible for asking to make up quizzes and tests in a timely manner. The class after a test is usually not a good day because they will be missing instruction on the next chapter.

4. Students are expected to speak with me before class starts are the day of their return in order to receive missed work. I will not track down students who missed work.

To be successful in this class you must ...

  1. pay attention in class and write down examples.

  2. participate in activities and discussions.

  3. consistently do homework and show all work.

  4. keep an organized binder.

  5. study for tests and quizzes by reviewing notes and homework, and by practicing problems,

Communication

Communication between school and parents is vital to your success in Algebra 2

I encourage parents to

  1. get your PowerSchool password. This allows you to check grades on a regular basis.

  2. contact me with any questions or concerns you have about your son/daughter or about the class.
